Travelling with children
Below you will find practical information for if you are travelling with your child. Is your child travelling alone? See information for unaccompanied children.
Travel documents for children
Before the trip, make sure that both you and your child possess the necessary travel documents.
- When travelling to and from countries outside the Schengen area it is a requirement that all travellers, including children, must present a valid travel document.
- Children are recommended to have a valid passport even when travelling within the Schengen area
- If you are unsure of which documents are needed for the country you are travelling to, contact relevant public authorities in the country in question.
The Swedish Police is the relevant authority in Sweden.
Travelling with only one guardian
The rules for only one guardian travelling with their child may vary from country to country.
- Contact a relevant public authority in the country you are travelling to in order to find out what is required of you.
- If you have a transfer in a diffrent country than your final destination, you should also check which rules apply in that country.
- Check with your airline if they have any specific rules for travelling with only one guardian.
The Swedish Police is the relevant authoruty in Sweden.
Packing baby food
Hand baggage
- You can bring baby formula, squeeze pouches and jars of baby food that you need during the flight.
- You have to take the baby food out of your hand baggage at the security checkpoint.
- Baby food is not required to be kept in the same plastic bag as your other liquids.
Checked baggage
- Be sure to pack the baby food well. If there is any damage because the packeting breaks in your baggage, you will not be compensated.
Travelling with a stroller
Private stroller
- The majority of airlines request that strollers/prams are checked in. These have to be checked as special baggage.
- If you need stroller bags, these are sold at Swedavia's information desk.
Borrowed stroller
- If you need a stroller/pram after checking in, these can be borrowed next Swedavia's information desk in the departure hall or after the security checkpoint.
Baby changing facilities
You'll find baby changing facilities at all the toilets in the airport. Find the toilet closest to you using our airport map.
Flajt's play areas
There are two play areas at the airport. You'll find them in these spots:
- Kaninlandet (the Rabbit Land) by Gate 19. A play area inspired by Liseberg Amusement Park, which includes climbing frames.
- Flajt's play area in the arrival hall, between baggage belts 1 and 2.
